FAST FRIDAY REWIND: ATLANTA 1996 FF#1

March 6, 2024

Greetings TEAM TITANS,

Now that we've completed our exhilarating Fast Friday #1, RMSC is gearing up for an electrifying start to the competitive swim season. Over these past few months, we've embarked on an incredible journey back to the fundamentals of swimming, gradually fine-tuning our mechanics to equip ourselves with the skills required to swim well and spectacularly fast.

Our first Fast Friday was nothing short of a whirlwind! With nearly a hundred Titans in the mix, the pool was alive with the pulse of excitement. We raced, showcased extraordinary team spirit, and truly immersed ourselves in the groove of competition. But it didn't stop there; even our Titans' parents got swept up in the excitement, passionately cheering on our swimmers and eagerly stepping into the role of volunteer timers. The enthusiasm was simply contagious.

And speaking of enthusiasm, our National and Provincial Development members, although not competing at Fast Fridays, were invaluable in ensuring the event ran seamlessly. Their leadership skills shone brightly as they contributed to the day's success.

Now, let's talk about the cherry on top: Embracing our Olympic theme, our Time Traveling Titans were transported back to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where history unfolded before our very eyes. Our National Development Boys dazzled with an elegant synchronized swimming performance during the Olympic Ceremony. Little Annabel Povazan carried the torch across the pool, perched atop our trusty Orca, Patty. To top it all off, our ND & PD girls paid tribute to the first-ever women's 4x200m freestyle relay by swimming a sensational 4x50m Free relay. The cauldron was lit, and they dove in, leaving no doubt that we're ready to explode off the blocks at the VPSC Meet in UBC and the PASS/MINI Meet in Richmond!

Mark your calendars, Titans, because Fast Friday #2 is just around the corner on November 3rd. This time, our time machine will transport us to the land down under, where the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games roared like thunder, ushering in the new millennium. The Sydney Aquatic Centre played host to some of the most memorable moments in Olympic history, including Eric "the Eel" Moussambani's 100m Free swim that embodied the Olympic Spirit, the smashing of metaphorical guitars by the Aussies after the 4x100m Men's Freestyle relay, and the dazzling debut of the Olympic legend, Michael Phelps.

We are buzzing with excitement as we continue riding the wave of positivity and passion into our next Fast Friday and throughout the competitive season. So, be sure to pack your RMSC competition passports and hand them over to your coach a week before every Fast Friday, allowing them to review, fill, and stamp them with approval.

Keep up the fantastic work, Titans!
